Eutrophication decreases Halophila beccarii plant organic carbon contribution to sequestration potential

چکیده
Seagrass ecosystems rank among the most effective blue carbon sinks in climate change mitigation and greenhouse gas removal. Nutrient pollution has emerged as a leading threat to seagrass decline diminished sequestration potential recent decades. Changes nutrient regime can also impact organic compositions (labile refractory compositions) of tissues, with important implications for determining quantity quality sequestration. However, there is still little information about loading on plant composition (ROC), which hinders our ability reveal driving mechanisms anthropogenic factors that decrease capability. Here, multidisciplinary approach was employed investigate variations Halophila beccarii at five meadows contrasting levels. The results showed H. nitrogen (N) content ranged from 2.21% 5.65%, well reflected external High elevated labile content, like free amino acids soluble sugars. Nevertheless, ROC (cellulose-associated matter) decreased increasing loading, presented significant negative linear correlation N content. These provide evidence eutrophic conditions enhance (high carbon) consequently potential. This suggests reducing input would aid storage.

Contribution of Doñana Wetlands to Carbon Sequestration
Inland and transitional aquatic systems play an important role in global carbon (C) cycling. Yet, the C dynamics of wetlands and floodplains are poorly defined and field data is scarce. Air-water CO2 fluxes in the wetlands of Doñana Natural Area (SW Spain) were examined by measuring alkalinity, pH and other physiochemical parameters in a range of water bodies during 2010-2011. Areal fluxes were...

[1] Soil organic carbon (SOC) in cropland is of great importance to the global carbon (C) balance and to agricultural productivity, but it is highly sensitive to human activities such as irrigation and crop rotation. It has been observed that under certain improved management practices, cropland soils can sequestrate additional C beyond their existing SOC level before reaching the C saturation ...
متن کاملLake eutrophication and its implications for organic carbon sequestration in Europe.
The eutrophication of lowland lakes in Europe by excess nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) is severe because of the long history of land-cover change and agricultural intensification. The ecological and socio-economic effects of eutrophication are well understood but its effect on organic carbon (OC) sequestration by lakes and its change overtime has not been determined. Here, we compile data from...
